Endowment Celebrating 50 Years of CO-OP

About the Endowment Celebrating 50 Years of CO-OP

In 1969, the Dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science (SOECS), Robert L. Heyborne, launched the CO-OP program at Pacific. To this day, CO-OP continues to be the crown jewel of the School and what differentiates Pacific’s SOECS from other engineering programs.

Today, our CO-OP program has 200 partner companies, some dating back to the 1970’s. CO-OP has many invaluable benefits, such as increasing a student’s chances of being accepted into a postgraduate program or securing employment after graduation. As Pacific engineering alumni know, the CO-OP experience can be life-changing and often lays the foundation for a student’s career path.

However, students who participate in CO-OPs (both domestic and international), and other experiential learning opportunities, often incur additional expenses associated with travel and living abroad. The intent of the Endowment Celebrating 50 Years of CO-OP is to reduce the financial barriers that may limit, or make impossible, a student’s ability to fully participate in a CO-OP or other experiential learning opportunity. These barriers are often associated with expenses above-and-beyond the resources available through their family, their own employment, and/or financial aid.

We are pleased to announce that we received a leadership gift of $25,000 to jumpstart fundraising efforts for the Endowment Celebrating 50 Years of CO-OP! Pacific is committed to establishing this endowment to ensure students have access to these unique learning experiences, regardless of their financial situation.

How you can help

Our goal is to raise at least $50,000 with your help. When we reach $50,000, every dollar raised up to that point, and after, will be matched dollar-for-dollar thanks to the Powell Match program for as long as matching funds are available. At that point, the Endowment Celebrating 50 Years of CO-OP will provide an annual payout, in perpetuity, to directly support SOECS students. The more we raise, the more barriers we can remove for SOECS students—allowing them to focus on their CO-OPs, studies, and professional growth.

By making your gift to support the Endowment Celebrating 50 Years of CO-OP, you will ensure future generations of students have access to these transformative learning experiences, regardless of financial background. Your support will specifically assist with flights, lodging, and other travel and ancillary expenses required to participate in CO-OPs (domestic and global), study abroad, academic exchange programs, international conferences, and other similar global engineering experiences. Thank you!
