Multi-Faith Meditation & Prayer Area - Stockton Campus Library

Please give generously to build and furnish University of the Pacific’s Multi-Faith Meditation and Prayer Area in the William Knox Holt Memorial Library. Your donation will fund project design, construction management, room finish, and space furniture for a 1052 square foot quiet place with a nearby 40 square foot ablution room. Let’s meet our $30,000 fundraising goal by June 30, 2019, to ensure project completion in January 2020, as part of the William Knox Holt Memorial Library facility renovation.

Why? Universities bring together students from diverse religious identities to affirm group identity, build a diverse community, and enhance spiritual knowledge. Campuses thereby mirror religiously diverse democracies where faith groups engage in a spirit of mutual respect and a commitment to the common good. Your direct support of religious and non-faith practices cultivates citizens of tomorrow’s diverse global community. At Pacific, we value diversity and inclusion. Designating a peaceful and inspiring area for our religious and non-faith students to utilize while in the library will provide space for students to explore and strengthen their beliefs and traditions without having to leave the building of study and research. Students active in Religious and Spiritual Life at Pacific have requested such a place be designed to enhance their academic work outside of the classroom.

Where? Academic libraries cultivate diverse philosophies and practices - in collections, in programs, and in spaces. A dedicated interfaith area in the William Knox Holt Memorial Library will advance religious and spiritual life at University of the Pacific. Your gift enhances library impact as a cultural and community gathering place and furthers student learning expression of identity, thought, and practice.

Who? In response to an increasingly diverse student body population, over 120 campuses across the country provide prayer rooms. For students of Islamic faith, which requires prayer five times a day, a centrally located prayer room allows them to maintain their class and study schedules while performing required prayers. In addition, the library’s extended hours ensure an inviting, accessible area for meditation, contemplation, reflection, and prayer for all Pacific students. Your donation ensures an inclusive dedicated environment for all University of the Pacific students, in keeping with national campus trends to support devotion and mindfulness.

What? This multi-faith area supports individual and communal prayer, meditation, and reflection. It is a place of grounding and renewal for people from various religious, spiritual, and philosophical traditions. Your contribution thereby promotes a safe, equitable, and inclusive community, which recognizes and honors the differences that enrich teaching and learning experiences.

How? Wellness requires balance, to be effective, to be resilience, to be healthy. Spiritual wellness involves seeking meaning and finding purpose in human existence, oftentimes furthered through prayer, meditation, and reflection. Your donation builds a dedicated area to promote mindfulness and encourage persistence, the underpinnings of wellness.

Some prayers go unheard, while others can come to fruition – with interfaith community support. Please give generously to the Multi-Faith Meditation and Prayer Area at Pacific.
