The Public Legal Services Society (PLSS) at University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law was established in 1990 by law students who wanted to use their legal education to help the less fortunate. The students later created the PLSS summer grant as a way to help law students gain work experience with non-profit and government organizations that need legal interns but cannot afford to pay them.
The PLSS Summer Grant Program provides current students with modest grants to help cover their living expenses while they volunteer as unpaid summer interns in public interest organizations. The students benefit from the legal experience, and the employer organizations benefit from the free staffing. These positions offer students valuable experiences and enable the organizations they support to provide even more public service.
By supporting the PLSS Summer Grant Program, you are not only helping a McGeorge student receive a valuable hands-on learning opportunity, but you are also supporting vulnerable populations gain access to much needed legal services and assistance. Give today and make a difference for both a student and the community at large!
We are excited to see you in person this year at our Spring Celebration and Auction on Friday, April 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the McGeorge Student Center. We will celebrate the work PLSS members have contributed to our community.
Pacific Gives Early Participation
With Pacific Gives, the University's annual day of giving, just around the corner, we wanted to give our donors a way to participate early. All supporters of the PLSS campaign will be recognized as part of Pacific Gives so be sure to check back April 25-26 to see our progress!
You will enable a student to provide approximately 40 hours of legal services this summer.
At this level, you will provide a student with half of a PLSS Summer Grant.
A gift at this amount will provide two students with PLSS Summer Grants.
